NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Class of 2022 student Trey Wang is among 17 recipients in the world to be awarded The Future Global Leaders Fellowship this year.
The Future Global Leaders Fellowship selects top first-generation university students from all over the world on an annual basis and, over the course of a 3-year program, primes them for induction into the Fortis Society – the world’s first private network of resilient and visionary leaders committed to one another’s success and to a better world.
The summer after their freshman year, Future Global Leaders Fellows complete an intensive three-week training with the National Outdoor Leadership School in the US. This summer, Wang, 22, from China, will set out on a 20-day outdoor expedition in Wyoming’s Wind River Range in the US. The outdoor leadership training will present physical and mental challenges as the fellows learn to navigate and adapt in the wilderness and is aimed at developing leadership and team-building skills.
Wang said, “As a first-generation student, I’m extremely thankful to join the fellowship and pursue the many opportunities that my parents couldn’t have imagined. I look forward to meeting my peers who have dedicated their time to various social causes. My first interview with the Founder of the Future Leaders Foundation showed me the unique ways that this program will challenge me to grow. This summer, I’m excited to take the first challenge: to survive the wilderness leadership training in Wyoming.
As Wang seeks to develop his interest in anthropology – with a keen interest on topics such as mental health, religion, art, and genetics – he will receive access to the FGL professional mentorship program which provides guidance and career training for all fellows.
Another NYU Class of 2022 student Xilin Chen, who is studying at NYU Shanghai, has also won the fellowship this year.
Upon completion of the FGL Fellowship, FGL Fellows receive a life-long membership to the highly selective Fortis Society.
