Affiliate Professor of Mathematics at NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Nader Masmoudi has been awarded The Kuwait Prize for 2019 in the field of Fundamental Sciences (Mathematics).
Presented by The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), the prize recognizes Masmoudi for his pioneering role in the field of partial differential equations’ analysis and applications in physics and mechanics.
Through winning the prize, Masmoudi hopes to apply some of the new ideas developed in the area of hydrodynamic stability to better understand crowd dynamics and traffic flow.
Graduating from the École Normale Supérieure Paris in 1996, Masmoudi gained his PhD from Paris Dauphine University in 1999 and has gone on to win a number of prizes over the course of his career. The Kuwait Prize joins his Fermat Prize awarded in 2017, Presidential Prize in 1994, and Senior Clay Math Scholar in 2014. Masmoudi has also published seven chapters in scientific books, a number of contributed chapters, and 150 papers in various prestigious scientific journals.
The Kuwait Prize was set up in 1979 by The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) with the aim of supporting scientific research and Arab researchers and scientists.
Masmoudi is currently an affiliated faculty member at NYUAD and a professor of mathematics at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University.
