Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, recognized as one of the premier institutions for higher education in the Middle East, has marked a transformative year under the leadership of its new Vice Chancellor, Professor Nathalie Martial-Braz. Her extensive experience in academic leadership, research, and student engagement, alongside a profound understanding of international education and multicultural environments, has fostered significant advancements within the university.
Notably, the university restructured its departments into three new schools: the School of Arts and Humanities, the School of Data, Science and Engineering, and the School of Law, Economics, and Business. This initiative coincides with a 20% increase in student enrollment at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi this year, reflecting the institution’s growing academic reputation.
Looking ahead, the university has unveiled a comprehensive strategic plan for 2024-2028. This blueprint concentrates on five pivotal areas: enhancing “Research” to drive advancements benefiting the UAE, France, and the global community; delivering quality “Education” to empower students with critical skills for success in an evolving landscape; increasing “Visibility” on regional and global stages to showcase achievements and foster collaborations with esteemed institutions; prioritizing “Excellence” in research, teaching, and community engagement; and integrating “Sustainability” across all initiatives to promote responsible practices for a sustainable future.
Professor Nathalie Martial-Braz, Vice Chancellor of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, stated, “With the establishment of our new schools and commitment to an inclusive admissions process, we are taking crucial steps toward shaping the future of education and empowering our students. We are enthusiastic about the direction we are heading and the positive impact these changes will bring to our university community.”
The university announced the launch of its cultural season for the academic year 2024/2025, reinforcing its mission to become a vibrant center for European and Emirati culture, humanities, and arts. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s National Strategy for Cultural and Creative Industries, which aims to enhance the UAE’s standing in the global cultural arena while inspiring creative thinking and attracting cultural talents from around the world.
Additionally, Professor Nathalie Martial-Braz emphasized the university’s role in fostering cultural engagement: “We are proud to contribute to creating a cultural agora by collaborating with the local community and civil society, offering an innovative cultural framework grounded in knowledge sharing and creative expression.”
Throughout the season, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi will curate a diverse array of cultural programs, including art exhibitions, concerts, theater plays, workshops, film screenings, lectures, and literary events. This cultural program aims to engage both students and the wider public, nurturing community involvement and showcasing global cultural diversity.Key highlights include a celebration of 50 years of French-Emirati relations on November 6 and December 8, “Teaching French as a foreign language with AI” conference on November 22, and UAE National Day celebrations on November 28 to name a few.
